    Q:
How do you replace the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on Scion xA? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring replacement process starts by following restraint system service rules and performing a battery negative terminal disconnection. Start by directing the front wheels straight ahead and proceed to remove the horn button assembly together with the steering wheel assembly using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). First disconnect the steering column cover using three screws which allows access to remove the clock spring sub-assembly after separating both the Air Bag connector and the connector from the sub-assembly then unfastening the 3 claws. Check the clock spring sub-assembly connector for scratches and cracks and also search for any present cracks dents or chips. Replace the component with a new one if needed. Set the turn signal switch to neutral before installing the new clock spring sub-assembly through 3 claw engagement and connection of the Air Bag connector and clock spring sub-assembly connector. Reattach the steering column cover with its 3 screws before adjusting the clock spring sub-assembly when the ignition switch turns off and you disconnect the battery negative terminal for 90 seconds then turn the clock spring sub-assembly counterclockwise until firm and rotate it clockwise by 2.5 turns to reach the mark alignment. To finish the installation you should add the steering wheel while inspecting the center point after mounting the horn button to check both assemblies along with the SRS warning device.

    Q:
How do you replace the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on Scion xB? Posted by Customer
    A:
A replacement of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring should begin with battery negative terminal disconnection and observing restraint systems service precautions. The first requirement is to position the front wheels directly ahead before removing the horn button assembly and the steering wheel assembly through use of Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). The first step is to take out the 3 screws holding up the steering column cover before proceeding to disconnect and remove the clock spring sub-assembly that requires separating connectors from the Air Bag and the cable assembly then dislodging 3 claws to separate it. The clock spring sub-assembly requires examination for any connector damage including scratches or cracks and also needs inspection for cracks dents or chips. When these conditions appear, swap it for a new assembly. Mount the new clock spring sub-assembly on the vehicle by first setting the turn signal switch to neutral while attaching the Air Bag connector followed by engaging the 3 claws to install it then placing back the steering column cover with its 3 screws. Adjust the clock spring sub-assembly by beginning with 90 seconds of battery negative terminal disconnection and ignition switch off state before counterclockwise clock spring spinning until firm then moving to clockwise rotation of 2.5 turns for mark alignment. To complete the procedure the steering wheel assembly must be installed next before moving onto steering wheel center point assessment and the installation of the horn button assembly followed by button inspection and SRS warning light verification.

    Q:
How do you replace the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on Scion xA? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process to replace the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring starts with following restraint systems service precautions and disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The front wheels should be aligned facing forward while workers use Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021) to remove the Horn Button Assy along with the Steering Wheel Assy. Start by removing the steering column cover through the disposal of its 3 screws until you achieve the removal of the Clock Spring Sub-Assy by detaching its Air Bag connector together with the connector from the clock spring sub-assy and then detach the 3 claws. Check the clock spring sub-assy connector for both connector scratches and cracks as well as any present chips, dents or cracks before replacing it with a fresh component. After ensuring the front wheels are still facing straight ahead, install the new clock spring sub-assy by setting the turn signal switch to the neutral position, engaging the 3 claws, and connecting the Air Bag connector and the connector to the clock spring sub-assy. Reinstall the steering column cover with the 3 screws, then adjust the clock spring sub-assy by ensuring the ignition switch is off and the battery negative terminal is disconnected for 90 seconds before turning the clock spring sub-assy counterclockwise slowly until firm, then rotating it clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the marks. To complete the installation you should put together the Steering Wheel Assy before examining the steering wheel center point and adding the Horn Button Assy for examination and checking the SRS warning light functionality.
