    Q:
How to Properly Install a Camshaft on Toyota Highlander? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine oil applications on the camshaft journals along with the camshaft housing sub-assembly RH and camshaft bearing caps must proceed the camshaft and No. 2 camshaft installation into the camshaft housing sub-assembly RH. The bearing caps should show their proper marks and number positions during installation. Use a torque wrench to temporarily fasten the 8 bearing cap bolts to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). The procedure requires installation of the Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black with Three Bond 1207B or equivalent material into a continuous straight line measuring 3.5 to 4.5 mm (0.138 to 0.177 in.) diameter with 3 minutes to complete the installation of the camshaft housing sub-assembly RH. Install the camshafts in their proper position to prevent piston and valve contact and apply fresh seal packing when any loose bolt surfaces need cleaning. Secure the eight bolts with 16 Nm torque (163 kgf-cm and 12 ft-lbf). Install the No. 2 chain tensioner assembly with a torque of 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) following tensioner pushing combined with 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) diameter pin insertion for maintenance. Use the engine oil to lubricate the threads and seating area while aligning the yellow mark plate with camshaft timing gear assembly 1-dot marks on both components before installing the camshaft timing assembly and its exhaustion component RH with a sub-assembly of the No. 2 chain. Install the camshaft timing gear assemblies by torquing their 2 bolts to 100 Nm (1020 kgf-cm, 74 ft-lbf) before dropping the pin from the No. 2 chain tensioner assembly. The next step requires installation of the No. 1 front engine mounting bracket LH with 6 bolts requiring a torque of 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft-lbf). Attention must be given to install the water inlet and mounting bracket before 15 minutes passes from chain cover installation and engine startup should be avoided for at least two hours post installation.
