Shift Control Cable

First you need to remove the front floor heat insulator No.1 as well as shift lever knob sub-assembly and console box assembly rear before you can handle the transmission control cable assembly (MTM). The procedure begins with separating the floor shift shift lever assembly through wire harness disconnection followed by the removal of 4 bolts. After detaching the clip on the transmission control select cable you must separate its cable end from the floor shift shift lever assembly by releasing the claw using a screwdriver to detach it from the shift lever retainer. The process should be repeated for the transmission control shift cable by removing both clips and two washers to detach it from the manual transaxle and control cable bracket. Begin by eliminating the two bolts and retainer from the floor before pulling out the cables via the floor opening. The installation process includes clamping the bolt at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) while pushing cables through the floor hole and retainer to position the transmission control cable assembly on the grommet with correct projection placement. Fasten the retainer to the floor by using 2 bolts that need torques at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). During installation fit the transmission control cable assembly onto the shift lever retainer where the serrate part of the select cable faces upwards and the clip should be properly positioned. Begin by attaching the 2 cable ends before putting washers then clips on each end followed by new clip installation on the control cable bracket. The last step includes reattaching the floor shift shift lever assembly by securing 4 bolts to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm) torque specifications along with rejoining the wire harness and reinstalling the console box assembly rear and shift lever knob sub-assembly and front floor heat insulator No.1 with a torque of 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm).

The repair process of the TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY (MTM) starts with FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1, SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY and CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR removal. Begin the FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER ASSY separation by disconnecting the wire harness while removing its 4 bolts. The next step requires detaching the clip then removing the TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY by using a screwdriver to release the claw from the floor shift shift lever assy so the cable end of the transmission control select cable could be separated from the shift lever retainer. The process must be repeated for the transmission control shift cable until both clips together with the two washers are removed to free the cables from the manual transaxle and control cable bracket. First remove 2 bolts with their corresponding floor retainer before disconnecting it from the grommet and taking out both cables from the floor hole. After bolting down the clamp at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) torque setting install the transmission control cables through the floor opening to secure them on the grommet by aligning their projections into the retainer holes. The floor installation of the retainer requires two bolts which should be tightened to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). After that step, mount the transmission control cable assy to the shift lever retainer. Both cables require connection to the floor shift shift lever assy where the serrate select cable end should face upward while its clip installs appropriately. Connect the cable ends and put on the two washers and two clips before installing the two new clips to the control cable bracket. Fit the 4 floor shift shift lever assy bolts and torque them to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Then restore the connection of the wire harness before reattaching the CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR and SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY and FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 with 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs. torque).

Begin by removing the console box rear cover, console box carpet, and console box assembly rear.

Remove the exhaust pipe assembly front, front floor heat insulator No.1, and air cleaner assembly.
