Shift Control Cable

Prior to removing the shift cable from the P311 HYBRID TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE it is necessary to disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal and let it sit for 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag deployment. Some systems will require a system initialization following reconnection. Both factory-made vehicles require elimination of their air conditioning units before removing engine undercovers from their right and left sides. The maintenance process begins by unattaching the air cleaner inlet assembly together with the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and air cleaner case sub-assembly. The transmission control cable assembly separation requires the nut removal from the control shaft lever followed by disconnecting the cable from the control shaft lever before taking off the clip to disconnect it from the No. 1 control cable bracket when additionally disconnecting it from the No. 2 and No. 3 transmission control cable brackets. To attain full transmission control cable assembly disconnect you should first identify both claws on the floor shift cable then roll back carpeting before removing two bolts which disconnect the shift cable grommet retainer and finally extract the transmission control cable assembly from the vehicle's body compartment.

The U250E automatic transaxle requires removal of the air conditioning unit along with a series of other components before permitting access to replace the transmission control cable assembly. The procedure to detach the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer involves pulling out the transmission control cable assembly from the transmission floor shift assembly while pushing the 2 claws of the floor shift cable and turning back the carpet before removing the 2 bolts to finish removing the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer. To remove the transmission control cable assembly begin by removing the nut from the control shaft lever then disconnect the assembly from the lever before removing the clip from the No.1 control cable bracket to separate it from the clamp and finish by removing the assembly from the body using your hand.

Some systems may require initialization after reconnection.

Push the 2 claws of the floor shift cable, turn back the carpet, remove the 2 bolts, and then remove the grommet retainer.

Pass the control cable assembly through the floor hole and secure it with 2 bolts, torqued to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf).

Connect the control cable to the control cable clamp and to the bracket using a new clip, then attach the transmission control cable to the control shaft lever with a nut, torqued to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf).
