Shift Control Cable

The first step to remove the shift cable is disconnecting it from the negative battery terminal but some systems need initialization following reinstallation. The maintenance procedure requires removal of the No. 2 cylinder head cover together with the battery and battery tray and battery carrier. Begin by taking out the air cleaner cap sub-assembly then the air cleaner case followed by separating the front exhaust pipe assembly. First remove three nuts from the front No. 1 floor heat insulator before following up with removal of finish panels from the left and right side of the lower instrument panel. The service process starts by removing the shift lever knob sub-assembly and the center No. 1 instrument cluster finish panel assembly, instrument panel box assembly, front No. 1 and No. 2 console box inserts, upper console panel sub-assembly, console box carpet, and console box assembly. The transmission control cable assembly separation starts with disconnecting the control shift cable from the shift lever assembly followed by removing the clip to disconnect the control select cable before using a screwdriver to pull out the stopper of the transmission control cable without removing it. Twist the nut in a counterclockwise direction to a 180-degree angle when holding it steady in place for removing the shift lever retainer connection of the transmission control cable. Avoid extensive rotation that could break the internal spring. The technician must begin by removing the 2 clips that detach the 2 transmission control cables between the transaxle and the control cable bracket. Subsequently the technician extracts the nut followed by the transmission control cable assembly until both 2 nuts and the transmission control cable assembly are detached.

Install it to the shift lever retainer, ensuring the spring position matches illustration A, and push in the stopper; if it resists, slightly rotate the nut clockwise before pushing.
