    Q:
How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on Toyota RAV4? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the Brake Master Cylinder Brake Master Cylinder servicing process by removing the reservoir while unscrewing its set screw then pulling it gently until reaching 1.8 Nm of torque. Start by removing the cap and strainer from the reservoir and then proceed to take out the two grommets. Install the cylinder into a vise position after which you should use a screwdriver to move the pistons completely into place before removing the bolt and gasket while applying 10 Nm of torque (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.). First put the screwdriver into the piston to push it inwards and remove the snap ring using snap ring pliers. Then pull out the No. 1 piston and spring straight out by hand with caution to prevent damaging the cylinder bore. You need to place a rag and two wooden blocks on your work table along with a cylinder flange that you should tap against the edges of the blocks until the piston drops out. The distance from rag to block top must exceed 100 mm (3.94 inch). A thorough examination of the cylinder bore should be performed for presence of rust and scoring while assessing for wear and damage before conducting necessary cleaning or cylinder replacement. Reassembly follows the actions performed during disassembly but first require the application of lithium soap base glycol grease on parts with arrows marked for lubrication.
