Passenger Air Bag

The Air Bag system requires a diagnostic system check following any collision occurrence. A visual examination of non-collided vehicles should inspect horn button assemblies for cuts, minor cracks, and darkened areas on their top surface and grooved part. In vehicles with undeployed Air Bags, inspect the horn button assembly for the same damage along with checking for connector cracks and examining horn button assembly and contact plate deformation. Replacement of the entire horn button assembly becomes necessary whenever the contact plate shows any deformation. Execute the installation of horn button assembly without creating any spaces between this component and the steering wheel assembly structure. The instrument panel passenger Air Bag assembly requires both diagnostic testing and visual damage inspections that should be completed with and without installation while searching for cuts, cracks and deformation. The system requires replacement of affected parts whenever any deformation or cracks are detected. Evaluate wire harnesses and connectors for damage together with their connection points especially in vehicles which have been in accidents. Users must examine the front sensor of the Air Bag for signs of cracks or dents or surface damage which would require replacement if present. The seat position Air Bag sensor needs damage inspection both with and without Air Bag activation. Replacement of the Air Bag sensor assembly center is required when it has been deployed. A front seat inner belt assembly must be replaced if resistance between terminals shows results outside of specified limits during the buckle switch examination.

Start Air Bag front passenger assembly service by taking out the No. 1 and No. 2 instrument panel speaker panels and the instrument panel before carefully dealing with the Air Bag wire harness when handling the Air Bag connector. You will need to disconnect the front passenger Air Bag assembly after removing its 12 claws alongside the 2 nuts. Secure the front passenger Air Bag through 12 claws before fastening the 2 nuts. Reinstall all instrument panel sub-assembly parts while maintaining the safety of the Air Bag wire harness. You must connect the cable to the negative battery terminal before checking the SRS warning light for its proper functionality.

Check the circuit for the airbag seat position sensor and replace the inner belt assembly if necessary.

Follow the correct replacement procedure.

Connect the red clip to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clip to the negative (-) terminal, and confirm that the activation switch LED illuminates.
