Built into the connector at the air bag ECU assembly exists a protection system for the SRS air bag system squib circuit that prevents accidental air bag activation through the disconnect process by allowing the short spring to touch the terminal and block external power flow. Users can disable this mechanism through placing paper material of equivalent male terminal thickness between the terminal and short spring until the circuit breaks. The activation prevention mechanism found on squib connectors should never be released by the technician unless explicitly specified by the troubleshooting procedure. The terminal and short spring need protection by using paper with size matching the male terminal.
