Toyota Echo Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the front Air Bag sensors on Toyota Echo?
A: The procedure to change front Air Bag sensors begins with turning off the ignition key to prevent DTC recording. The use of new SRS components is essential so do not reuse sensors that participated in an accident or attempt to fix these components. The first step requires removing the left-hand side bolt and air cleaner inlet followed by disconnecting the connector when the sensor assembly is placed before removing the two bolts retaining the front Air Bag sensor LH. The installation of the right-hand side sensor requires disconnecting the connector which remains with the sensor assembly followed by removing the two bolts that secure the front Air Bag sensor RH. Connect the sensor connector after complete installation while torquing it to reach 20 Nm (205 kg.cm, 15 ft.lb). The sensor needs replacement with a fresh unit unless it remains undamaged after a drop or displays no defects. An electrical check mechanism embedded in the front sensor requires strict locking before you can join the connector to stop diagnostic system from generating malfunction codes. The front Air Bag sensor installation requires placing the sensor arrow toward the vehicle front then using two bolts for the front Air Bag sensor LH before connecting its connector and reinstalling the air cleaner inlet with a bolt. Place the front Air Bag sensor RH by tightening its two bolts before connecting the connector.
