Toyota Echo A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve in a refrigeration system on Toyota Echo?
A: The first step before replacement of the expansion valve requires a refrigerant discharge procedure from the refrigeration system. Begin by detaching the liquid tube and suction hose from the A/C unit. Then use a hexagon wrench (5.0 mm, 0.20 in.) to remove the 2 bolts which will separate the expansion valve from the evaporator when applied at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). To install the new expansion valve begin by applying compressor oil to 2 new O-rings before placing them on the valve and fastening the valve with the two bolts through hexagonal wrench (5.0 mm, 0.20 in.) while winding the bolts at 3.4 N.m (35 kgf.cm, 30 in.lbf). Follow this step by connecting the liquid tube and suction hose after pumping refrigerant of 460 +/ - 30 g (16.23 +/ - 1.06 oz) into the system after air evacuation. Perform a leakage check during the process.
