The first step to remove the parking brake cable requires changing the center lower instrument panel finish panel on sedans and shifting out the shift lever knob on manual transaxles. When performing work on the hatchback manual transaxle you must eliminate the shifting hole cover sub-assembly while for the sedan you need to remove the upper console panel sub-assembly. The rear console box cover needs removal in hatchback models along with sedan model rear upper console panel sub-assembly removal. Remove both the console box carpet as well as the rear console box assembly. The maintenance process requires staff to detach the rear wheel followed by the removal of the rear brake drum sub-assembly. Proceed with unfastening the rear brake shoe kit. Taking off two nuts on the front floor No. 4 heat insulator leads to removing the fuel tank cover vent case sub-assembly from its right-hand side position through clip removal and subsequent bolt removal of the vent case assembly. Loosen the adjusting nut located on No. 1 wire before you disconnect the parking brake cable end from the equalizer.
