2010 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the brake master cylinder sub-assembly with and without VSC and ABS on 2010 Toyota Yaris?
A: Begin the brake master cylinder sub-assembly with VSC installation procedure by installing a new O-ring to the sub-assembly followed by mounting the sub-assembly with its wire harness clamp bracket by tightening two nuts to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). The installation of 2 brake tubes onto the sub-assembly requires a union nut wrench (12 mm) for tightening to 20 Nm (199 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf). There are steps to connect the brake fluid warning switch connector. The brake booster push rod inspection and adjustment without VSC requires the use of Special Service Tool: 09737-00013 to attach to the master cylinder sub-assembly for rod positioning to piston contact; alternatively use Special Service Tool: 09737-00012. Measure the brake booster push rod clearance with SST rod using chalk dust to confirm it is within the specification range of -0.21 to 0 mm (-0.0083 to 0 in.). Use the 7 mm socket driver to adjust the rod length after holding it with Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 then check the clearance. A new O-ring follows before installing the brake master cylinder sub-assembly along with torqueing 2 nuts to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). The brake tubes get connected by using a union nut wrench to reach 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) torque or without the wrench reaching 14 Nm (144 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf). Safely join the warning switch connector for brake fluid level. When installing without ABS use the exact process used for ABS installations while executing the connection of the brake fluid level warning switch connector afterward. The clutch reservoir tube needs connection to its safety clip followed by regular installation of the battery carrier and tray and battery. Follow these steps: add brake fluid to the reservoir then bleed the master cylinder before moving on to bleeding the brake line and finally ending up with bleeding the brake actuator with VSC. Complete the procedure by checking the fluid level and inspecting for any brake fluid leaks.
