- Q: How to install the Shift Cable assembly for the U760E automatic transaxle on 2009 Toyota Highlander?A: The transmission control cable assembly requires counterclockwise rotation of the nut as the stopper is depressed for installation with the outer part attached to the shift lever retainer beyond portion A-A. Move the slider to its marking and remove the lock piece before attaching the cable end to the shift control unit while ensuring the lock piece rises and the cable end sits at the pin base, then replace the lock piece after changing the shift lever placement. Install three bolts to secure the transmission control cable assembly at 4.9 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 in-lbf) torque and fasten the cable to the control shaft lever through the nut which needs a torque of 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). Install a new clip to the cable bracket and connect the assembly to the bracket, ensuring claw A on the clip fits securely into the bracket holes and the cable is properly installed inside claw B. Proceed to install the air conditioning unit, air cleaner case sub-assembly, air cleaner filter element sub-assembly, air cleaner cap sub-assembly, No. 2 inlet air cleaner, No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly, outer cowl top panel sub-assembly, ejector tube, windshield wiper motor and link assembly, cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, front wiper arm and blade assembly RH, front wiper arm and blade assembly LH, and cool air intake duct seal. The last step involves connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal with the additional note that system initialization could be necessary after the reconnection followed by shift lever position adjustment and shift lever inspection.
