2009 Toyota 4Runner Differential Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the rear differential carrier assembly on 2009 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The installation of the rear differential carrier assembly starts with cleaning the contact areas between the rear differential carrier assembly and rear axle housing assembly. Installation of the differential carrier assembly with its new gasket requires 10 nuts and 10 washers and torques to 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). Beginning with the rear axle shaft installation comes the backing plate followed by the parking brake shoe sequence of components including parking brake shoe strut LH and parking brake shoe strut compression spring and eventually parking brake shoe return tension spring. The rear disc requires installation and two bolts should be used with the rear disc brake caliper assembly LH and RH for a torque of 88 Nm (897 kgf-cm, 65 ft-lbf). Connect the rear speed sensor LH and RH using the same installation methods for the RH side. After installing the propeller shaft assembly, addition of brake fluid to the reservoir is necessary followed by master cylinder bleeding alongside brake line bleeding and reservoir brake fluid level adjustment. The technician must inspect for brake fluid leaks while filling differential oil and checking the condition of the differential oil. You should finish by installing the rear wheel then torque it to 112 Nm (1,142 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf). After that check the ABS sensor signal and adjust the parking brake lever travel.
