2009 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the fuel tank on 2009 Scion tC?
A: The first step for removing the fuel tank requires uninstalling both the rear seat cushion assembly and its mounting bolts. Start by removing the rear floor service hole cover then pull the negative cable off its battery terminal while waiting at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Begin by draining the fuel then continue with the removal procedure of the center exhaust pipe assembly. You must remove the 5 bolts from the No. 1 fuel tank protector to proceed with the removal. The procedure starts with disassembly of the canister assembly and followed by the removal of the rear suspension brace lower LH which needs three bolts removed and the rear suspension brace lower RH needs its two bolts removed. To disconnect the fuel tank main tube the technician should press on the tab to free the retainer lock claws and push them downward before removing the tube from its pipe while checking for both cleanliness and part scratch prevention. The fuel tank breather tube should be disconnected while pinching its retainer to remove the connector before proceeding with careful cleaning of all components. The fuel hose protector requires removal by disconnecting the claw fitting before the hose clamp bolt becomes loose and the fuel tank to filler pipe hose can be detached. A transmission jack should secure the fuel tank followed by removal of the 4 bolts and 2 fuel tank bands to enable jack operation and remove the fuel tank assembly.
