2005 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector assembly on 2005 Toyota 4Runner?
A: A proper replacement of fuel injectors begins with keeping gasoline from escaping and emptying engine coolant. First remove the V-bank cover while disconnecting ventilation hose No.2 before taking out the air cleaner assembly. By-pass water hoses No.4 and No.5 together with the fuel vapor feed hose assembly and ventilation hose should be disconnected. The fuel delivery process starts with removing the intake air surge tank by disconnecting the 2 VSV connectors then removing each throttle motor connector followed by releasing 3 wire harness clamps and hose clamp and finally removing the 3 upper bolts securing surge tank stays and throttle body bracket. A socket hexagon wrench 8 should remove the 4 bolts before unfastening the 2 nuts that secure the intake air surge tank, its gasket, and both nuts. Pull out fuel pipe sub-assembly Number One by loosening the fuel pipe clamp then pulling the tube connector while making sure no dirt exists by the connector. The same procedure should apply for fuel pipe sub-assembly No.2. To access the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly disconnect all six fuel injector connectors before removing six bolts that are securing the fuel delivery pipe with its associated injectors while avoiding any possible drops. Use this procedure when installing the new fuel injector assembly by attaching fresh insulators to each injector then apply spindle oil or gasoline to new O-rings before carefully installing the components while rotating the injectors. The correct installation of the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly begins with positioning connectors facing outward followed by placement onto the intake manifold then a temporary installation of the 6 bolts while ensuring complete injector rotation. Make sure to fasten the 6 fuel injector connectors before tightening the bolts with 15 Nm (153 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf). Users need to push the tube connector into fuel pipe sub-assembly No.2 until it clicks before checking the assembly for damage or foreign material followed by clamping it into place. Perform the same process for fuel pipe sub-assembly No.1. The intake air surge tank requires a new gasket before installation of two nuts should reach 28 Nm (286 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf), while the four manifold bolts must achieve the same torque followed by three upper bolts receiving 21 Nm (214 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf) torque. Reinstall the wire harness clamps together with the hose clamp followed by connecting the throttle motor, 2 VSV connectors, and ventilation hose and fuel vapor feed hose assembly and water by-pass hoses No.4 and No.5. After finishing install the air cleaner assembly you must reconnect hose No.2 along with the V-bank cover then check leakages in engine coolant and fuel systems before adding engine coolant.
