2004 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2004 Toyota Avalon?
A: Service and repair of the vacuum brake booster begins by taking out the air cleaner cover with its hose and then using the master cylinder. Service and repair of the brake booster requires VSC owners to disconnect the precharge pump assembly along with the vacuum hose from the brake booster. First remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel with its lower LH panel insert and No. 2 heater to register duct then finish the brake booster assembly removal by dispossessing the pedal return spring followed by the clip and clevis pin along with four nuts and clevis before extracting the brake booster with its gasket. Begin brake booster installation by placing the booster with new gasket then joining the clevis to the operating rod and torquing booster installation nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). You should insert the clevis pin into both the brake pedal and clevis before fastening it with the clip and re-install the pedal return spring. Use Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 to check booster push rod length by lowering the pin toward the piston until light contact occurs, then invert the tool to measure the booster push rod to pin head clearance and verify 0 mm (0 inch) distance. The booster push rod length should be adjusted using Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to achieve a light contact with the pin head. The installation starts with the precharge pump assembly when VSC is present followed by the master cylinder which requires connecting the vacuum hose to the brake booster. The technician will perform the brake system bleeding procedure using brake fluid while also searching for leakages and performing necessary brake pedal adjustments. The operational check commences after installing the No. 2 heater to register duct and lower LH instrument panel insert and lower No. 1 instrument panel.
