2003 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the Side Air Bag Sensor Assembly on 2003 Toyota Prius?
A: Properly disconnect the SRS wiring connector and remove the Side Air Bag Sensor Assembly by starting with an off ignition switch. This prevents DTCs from saving during sensor assembly removal. Do not open cases or covers of ECU devices or electrical units because static electricity can cause damage. The first step requires you to remove the front door scuff plate together with the rear door scuff plate along with the center pillar lower garnish. The first step involves taking out both the front seat outer belt retractor and the side Air Bag sensor assembly while starting with cover removal followed by connector disconnection and maintaining the sensor assembly on the connector for removal. The installation process requires the removal of the three bolts which fasten the side Air Bag sensor assembly. Installation of side Air Bag sensor assemblies requires New SRS parts alone since previously damaged Air Bag systems must receive new parts and constituet no part of your work. The side Air Bag assembly installation requires three bolts that must reach 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque. After attaching the sensor assembly the connector needs connection which should maintain the required torque level. Any detected sensor assembly defects or drops should be followed by using a new replacement unit. Test the sensor assembly stability by shaking it to confirm proper installation of the SRS wiring which must avoid enclosure with other parts during the procedure. Replace front seat outer belt retractor along with the cover then integrate the center pillar lower garnish with rear door scuff plate and front door scuff plate.
