2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel injector on 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The process of servicing and repairing the fuel injector starts by removing the suspension upper brace as well as the No. 2 cylinder head cover followed by eliminating the PCV hose and the three wire harness clamps. First disconnect the four injector connectors then undo the two delivery pipe cylinder head securing bolts before slowly disassembling the delivery pipe with its four injectors. The procedure requires proper handling of the injectors to ensure they do not drop; after removing both spacers and four grommets pull the four injectors from the delivery pipe while separate the O-ring from each injector. Wet a new O-ring lightly with spindle oil or gasoline before using it to install each injector on the cylinder head while simultaneously placing the two spacers and four new insulators onto the delivery pipe. Apply spindle oil or gasoline to the delivery pipe contacts the O-ring then use the injector to push on delivery pipes and install the four injectors with connector at an upward position. Place the delivery pipe with injectors onto the cylinder head while briefly fastening both bolts to confirm smooth rotation of the injectors before replacing the O-ring if necessary. Screw in both cylinder head bolts to 19 N.m (190 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) while connecting the four injector connectors. Complete the procedure by reinstating the suspension upper brace, the PCV hose and three wire harness clamps and No. 2 cylinder head cover. Remove the clamp before disconnecting the fuel tube connector then clean both components before manually disconnecting it and seek manual help for connector release in case of failure. Check the seal surface for any present dirt before using a vinyl bag to shield disconnected pipes and connectors. The procedure for connecting the fuel tube connector requires no retainer reuse and manual removal followed by injury check and object clearance then pipe alignment before pushing until a "click" sound can be heard. The pipe tip requires engine oil application only when encountering tight connections. Secure the pipe-connector connection by pulling them out and afterward install the fuel pipe clamp while monitoring for fuel leakages.
