• Q: How to replace the Vapor Canister on 2003 Toyota 4Runner?

  A: Starting the Evaporative Emission Control Canister replacement requires removing the spare tire from its storage position. Remove the charcoal canister assembly by disconnecting the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister using the connection method which includes deeply pushing the connector inside, pinching portion A and pulling out the connector. The procedure for removing the canister outlet hose No. 2 involves the same connector removal steps applied to the fuel tank vent hose and the charcoal canister. Connectors should be removed from both the CCV and the VSV while hose connections from the charcoal canister should also be detached. Use a wrench to detach the three bolts which fasten the charcoal canister onto the body. To install the charcoal canister position it properly then fasten it using the three bolts which should betorqued to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Install the hose from the purge line to the charcoal canister followed by attaching the VSV connector to the CCV and the canister outlet hose No. 2 to the charcoal canister before connecting the fuel tank hose to its position.
