2002 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Injector on 2002 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first task should be to stop fuel leakage before you remove coolant from the system. Begin by taking out the V-bank cover, battery along with the air cleaner assembly and its attached hose and the front suspension brace sub-assembly upper center and intake air surge tank. The first step to replace the fuel injector assembly requires you to remove the pulsation damper alongside 2 gaskets from fuel pipe sub-assembly No.1 followed by unbolted connection and removal of the 2 gaskets to disconnect the fuel pipe sub-assembly No.1 from the intake manifold. To begin the process pull out the fuel injector assembly through the following steps: disconnect the injector connectors followed by removing 2 bolts and fuel delivery pipe and equally pulling out both ends of the delivery pipe and turning the injector in clockwise then counterclockwise directions until extraction from the delivery pipe completes. The installation requires a light gasoline treatment of new O-rings which should then be placed on each injector before putting the injector into the delivery pipe with smooth rotation inspections until the pipe exhibits proper movement before replacing O-rings again. Screw the delivery pipe along with its installed injectors gently to achieve 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) torque without allowing the injectors to drop. Install the pulsation damper gaskets along with a pulsation damper to fuel pipe sub-assembly No.1 while applying 33 N.m of torque (336 kgf.cm, 24 ft.lbf). The delivery pipe needs to be installed within 33 N.m (336 kgf.cm, 24 ft.lbf) of torque with 2 new fuel pipe No.1 gaskets and a bolt attached to the No.1 pipe, and finally the pipe requires a 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque when installed to the intake manifold. The service procedure requires installation of components in the order of intake air surge tank followed by front suspension brace sub-assembly upper center to 80 N.m (816 kgf.cm, 59 ft.lbf) coupled with air cleaner assembly with hose and V-bank cover. Proceed with adding coolant to the system plus inspecting for coolant leaks and searching for fuel leaks.
