2001 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front Brake Pad Set on 2001 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Before installing new front brake pads it is necessary to first remove the wheel then assess pad lining thickness through comparison with 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) minimum limits before pad replacement. Start by removing the clip then both pins together with the anti-rattle spring before taking out the 2 pads also containing their 4 anti-squeal shims. Use the anti-rattle spring and clip again when they remain free of deformation and cracks and wear and without rust or dirt. After disc runout and thickness tests check the condition of pads with the replacement of anti-squeal shims. Pour slightly more than a droplet of brake fluid into the reservoir then press the pistons using a monkey wrench handle which needs to be taped beforehand. Change each wheel pad one at a time to avoid the opposing piston from escaping then open the bleeder plug for brake fluid release when pushing in the pistons. Put disc brake grease on both inner anti-squeal shims before pad installation and avoid oil or grease coming into contact with the pad rubbing surface. Install the new pads by reattaching the anti-rattle spring with two pins, the clip afterward, and finally reinstall the front wheel while torquing it to 110 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Repeated pressure on the brake pedal must happen before verifying that the fluid reaches the maximum mark on the reservoir.
