- Q: How to service and repair the Throttle Cable/linkage on 2000 Toyota 4Runner?A: The repair and servicing of throttle cables starts by unhooking both throttle cable extremities from linkage and clamp points in the engine compartment followed by bolt removal to detach the clamp from the torque converter clutch housing. After removing the valve body along with its retaining bolt you can extract the throttle cable from its position. Install the bolt only after pushing the new throttle cable into maximum position. New double-rated throttle cable installation requires an approximately 200 mm (7.87 inches) radius bend in the stopper after pulling the inner cable lightly until slight resistance for staking the stopper 0.8 - 1.5 mm (0.031 - 0.059 inch) from the end of the outer cable. First install the bolt after securing the cable clamp onto the torque converter clutch housing then link the cable to the cable clamps in both engine compartment and throttle linkage. After adjusting the throttle cable, add 2 liters of ATF transmission fluid while monitoring the fluid level during an engine start followed by shifting through all positions to make appropriate fluid top-offs while avoiding an excess amount. The system needs ATF D-II or DEXRON-II fluid type and requires an immediate check of fluid level.
