A proper method to remove the steering wheel involves setting the front wheels straight forward and waiting a minimum of 90 seconds while the SRS system is disabled by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Proceed with the SRS precautions in place before removing lower No. 3 and No. 2 steering wheel covers and extracting the steering pad. The first step to remove the steering wheel includes removing the set nut then marking alignment with matchmarks before disconnecting spiral cable connectors while using Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 to detach the assembly. Special Service Tool 09953-05020 requires grease application on its threads and tip for operational use while the engine switch and battery connection are off (IG) in tandem with avoiding spiral cable rotation. Make sure to check the steering sensor while maintaining the steering wheel in a direct position. Next you can take out the steering wheel damper after screw removal and disconnect the cruise control main switch and its wire. The first step involves disconnecting the two pins from the No. 1 steering wheel ornament after unscrewing the ornament followed by removal of the steering pad switch LH by unscrewing and disengaging the two pins. The steering pad switch assembly needs screws removal while its pins must be detached on the RH and LH sides. The bottom steering wheel boss cover removal requires unscrewing each claw then extracting the two steering pad attaching screws that are part of the lower steering wheel boss cover.

Finally, inspect the steering pad and the SRS warning light, ensuring proper functionality.
