Steering Wheel

Beginning the steering wheel removal process requires front wheels alignment in the straight ahead position and removal of both steering wheel bottom No.2 covers. A torx socket screwdriver should be used to reduce the torque on the 2 torx screws until they lock into the screw case due to the screw circumference grooves. Steer the wheel pad upward and then disconnect the Air Bag connector as well as the horn connector while ensuring you do not disturb the Air Bag wire harness before properly placing the wheel pad with its upper side facing upward. Begin by taking off the steering wheel set nut then apply matchmarks between the steering wheel and main shaft assembly. The special service tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021) is used to remove the wheel along with wire connector disconnection. To install the wheel set first position the wheel and main shaft matchmarks correctly before tightening the wheel set nut to 50 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.) then connect the connector. The wheel pad installation requires new Air Bag parts while the wheel pad must be torqued to specifications before conducting a damage assessment before final assembly. To install the wheel pad start by connecting the Air Bag connector and horn connector followed by wheel pad installation where the circumference groove of the torx screw must be caught on the screw case before tightening both screws on top of the wheel pad to 8.8 Nm (90 kgf-cm, 78 inch lbs.) to stop floating. The last installation task involves putting on both steering wheel lower No. 2 covers while conducting a steering wheel center point check.

Take off the upper and lower column covers.
