A proper analysis of the Occupant Classification ECU and Occupant Classification Sensor must be performed on the Front Seat Cushion Assembly following any type of collision. The inspection of the Occupant Classification ECU requires diagnostic system checks for all vehicles which did not participate in collisions. The ECU replacement process requires checking for connector damage in addition to ECU case or connector integrity. Proper removal and installation methods must be used when replacing the components. A diagnostic system check needs to be performed on the Occupant Classification Sensor of vehicles that did not collide. Perform a diagnostic system check on collision vehicles without Air Bag deployment followed by sensor replacement in damaged areas or when cracks, dents or chips appear on the housing and whenever the connector shows damage or label or serial number problems exist. The sensor requires replacement when Air Bags deploy in the damaged section while sensors in unharmed areas need replacement if major collision indicators are present along with similar damage patterns after proper removal and installation steps.
