    Q:
What is the correct procedure for activating and disposing of a front seat outer belt with a seat belt pretensioner using Special Service Tool 09082-00770, both when installed and uninstalled on Scion tC? Posted by Customer
    A:
A seat belt pretensioner installation requires the activation of the device through the specified Special Service Tool: 09082-00770. An operational check of the tool requires clip attachment to the positive terminal of the battery using a red clip and the negative terminal with a black clip without connecting the yellow connector. When testing the activation switch you should observe the LED light up only upon switch pressing and if it activates without pressure from your hand you need to replace the tool. First disconnect the pretensioner connector which then requires removal of the rear seat cushion and seatback as well as front door scuff plate and No. 1 side trim and center pillar garnish before separating the pretensioner connector. Connect the Air Bag Deployment Tool: 09082-00700, 09082-00770 to the seat belt pretensioner by mounting the floor anchor of the seat belt before activation. A minimum distance of 10 m separates the tool from the vehicle where all vehicle doors must be secured and the tool needs battery power. Before activating the pretensioner through the switch confirm that both the vehicle and all occupants and bystanders are beyond 10 m of distance. Keep the active front seat outer belt untouched for thirty minutes since it will remain hot while using both gloves and safety glasses. The front seat outer belt needs to be placed in a plastic bag before tightening the bag for disposal. To dispose of the front seat outer seatbelt absence from vehicles, tension the belt with its retractor then trim it 100 mm from the retractor before proceeding with tool activation while executing safety measures diligently.
