Passenger Air Bag

A diagnostic system check of the Air Bag system becomes essential after any collision occurs. A visual assessment should be conducted on all passenger Air Bag assemblies after collisions to check for cuts as well as small cracks and any marks of discoloration. After a collision inspection requires removal of the front passenger Air Bag assembly for examination of similar damage while checking wire harnesses for damage and inspecting the instrument panel for any deformation or cracks that lead to replacement. A diagnostic check needs repetition and you should inspect both the instrument panel and connector damage. Start by performing a diagnostic check on the steering wheel pad then inspect it for possible damage which must not hinder steering wheel operation. A spiral cable connector and wire harness should be inspected for damage if the vehicle took part in a collision. The SRS wire harness as part of the cowl wire harness assembly needs inspection for breaks along with exposed conductors so that faulty components can be replaced. Replacement of the Air Bag sensor assembly is required when a deployment occurs or it proves faulty and especially when the component drops. The front Air Bag sensor should undergo diagnostic assessment while visual inspection reveals deployment-related damage before replacing it if it failed the check or if damage exists. The technician needs to follow correct procedures for Air Bag component removal and installation starting with front passenger Air Bag assembly and steering wheel pad and continuing through Air Bag harness and Air Bag sensor assembly and front Air Bag sensor.

Maintain a distance of at least 10 m (33 ft) from the steering wheel pad during deployment.

Replace it if deployed, found faulty, or dropped.
