2001 Toyota Prius A/C Accumulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator on 2001 Toyota Prius?
A: A modulator replaces its drier by first unbolting the 2 fasteners and bracket. The modulator cap needs a hexagon wrench (10 mm 0.39 in) for removal followed by filter extraction. To replace the drier in the modulator first clean the filter with pliers before placing a new drier inside while keeping it in the vinyl bag until install time with the 2 layered part positioned at the top. Set the filter into the modulator in a way that positions its protruding side downward before proceeding. First apply compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to both O-rings and screw part of the cap. Next torque the caps to 12.3 N.m (125 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf) using a hexagon wrench (10 mm, 0.39 in.).
