Perform zero point calibration of the torque sensor during the removal or installation of the steering wheel together with the tilt steering column or electric power steering gear and periodically when replacing the EMPS ECU. The first step requires both front wheels and the steering wheel to face directly forward. The use of the TOYOTA hand-held tester requires users to stop the vehicle, connect the tester to DLC3, select "TRQ SENS ADJUST" followed by "ZERO POINT INITIALIZE" to complete the initialization process according to screen instructions but only execute this procedure when replacing the EMPS ECU. Approach this procedure with a non-TOYOTA hand-held tester by first stopping the vehicle then using DLC3 Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 to link terminals Ts with CG and Tc along with CG. Next perform a 20-second OFF and ON toggle of terminal Tc which should produce DTC C1515/15. Sensitization of the torque sensor through the TOYOTA hand-held tester requires users to let the wheel alone during this process while choosing menu options "TRQ SENS ADJUST" followed by the "ZERO POINT ADJUST" page then following the screen prompts. Initiate the procedure without the TOYOTA hand-held tester by maintaining contact avoidance from the steering wheel while confirming that only DTC C1515/15 is displayed. Wait for the vehicle to stop then switch off the ignition before initiating terminal Ts and CG connections on DLC3 with Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 and beginning the ignition with the tool attached.

Place the steering wheel pad.
